We had a discussion about our story in the restaurant on Tuesday and Wang came up with four ideas, each of which was excellent, and we chose the second one.
The story: two people living under the same space, they carry out their normal course of action, but there is no interaction between them, even when the other doesn’t exist. But the one thing that they do is interconnected. For example, one person goes out to work and forgets to water, and the other helps him to do so before he goes to work.
We believe that behind each is behaviour is an influence on what is around them.
Creating 3 ideas which will feature ideas as well as shots I want to use on my final graduation design.I did a few shots and sketches in maya.
The first story:two old and new killers meet at the bridge, where the old one is retiring and gives the new one a farewell, however the new one is given a new assignment to kill the old one. But the old killer anticipates this outcome and turns around, then,he kills the new killer.
The second story:a handicapped man with no legs sat begging on the side of the street.Passers-by gave him a helping hand by putting money into the metal box in front of him, and soon his box was gull of money.when the sun went down, he lifted his sleeve from inside his wide coat. He had a designer watch on his left wrist and he looked at the time, it was 6 o`clock, he suddenly stood up and it turned out that there was a hole where he was sitting and he hid his feet in it.
The third story:The story is based on the story of the three little pigs. The wolf is a form full of strength and he has strong arms. With just one swing of his fist, the wind from his fist destroyed the thatched hut of the first little pig. The first piglet was very frightened and froze in place. The second piglet beckoned to him and the first piglet ran into the hut. The big bad wolf approached the hut, took a deep breath and blew the house straight away. The two piglets were blown into the third piglet’s house. The big bad wolf slowly approached them and then passed by the pile of bricks next to the house and disdainfully pushed it away, which the two piglets saw with great alarm and hugged each other. The big bad wolf was very puzzled and then a shadow overtook him. He turned around to see a little piglet whose body was more strongly mounted than his, with small arms bulging with muscles bigger than the Big Bad Wolf’s head. The big bad wolf was so frightened that he went straight to his knees and begged for mercy.
• On graduation which area or environment of production do you wish to focus upon and why?
When I graduate, I hope to focus on character animation. I think the most important thing in an animation is the story content, who determines the ceiling of the film, depending on whether it can evoke empathy. However, the character’s movement/speech/expression can determine the lower limit of the film, and even smooth movement/expression can make a better viewing experience for the audience.
• What skills will you need to attain the standards required for vocational practice?
I need to learn a lot about the basics of 3D animation, especially the group work aspect, which I am new to and still have very little experience with. Also I need to learn more about character animation.
• How will you showcase your FMP practice for the final shows?
I wanted to show FMP in the form of a film that takes place among a gang of killers, where the team members kill each other because of unequal distribution of money. I wanted to reflect more of the action of the characters.
• Is it important to directly connect the thesis research to your practical work?
I think it is important that by studying character animation, I can better understand the actions or expressions that the characters should make to fit the scenes in various episodes of the animation.
• Do you have an area of research you wish to conduct that is unrelated to practical element?
I have a great interest in Chinese history and culture. There are many interesting cultural elements in China, such as opera, origami, shadow puppets, etc.
We had a project exchange and collaboration with MA students from Games Design, VFX, 2 D animation and VR on Wednesday. I was very happy to have such an opportunity to work on a collaborative project with students from other disciplines. I am a 3 D animation major and I was hoping to do a project in the form of animation.
I want to do a film from an everyday object to a fantastical object. This theme let my imagination run wild, allowing me to realise some fantastical scenarios that had arisen in my mind.
I ended up working with a group of three students from my major and one VFX student. We are initially planning to do something related to Causality (Cause and Effect) and we are planning to tell a version of our story next week.
This is a presentation and showreel for myself. I have methodically acquired the fundamentals of 3D animation this semester and have a basic comprehension of the rules of motion in animation. I will continue to build on this knowledge in my subsequent learning processes in order to enhance my 3D fundamental abilities.
I’d want to express my gratitude to Jixuan Chen, Zheng Deng, and Jiawei Chen, who make up our team. I want to thank them all for their assistance in fixing the issues I encountered throughout the group assignment, which was a priceless learning opportunity for me.
Here is a little animation of our team; maybe, we can do better in the future.
The relationship between history, culture, and animation was made crystal plain to me by the presentation, which I found to be intriguing for an underserved market. In order to best employ the expression of animation to comprehend historical stories, I would like to, if possible, meet similar-minded colleagues in my further studies.Let’s investigate and research this subject together.
For now, this week I’ve tentatively titled my topic: Exploring the influence of mythological history and historical culture on Chinese animation.
I was surprised to discover that there are surprisingly few animated films that have been adapted through the history and culture of various countries, as well as animated films that use history and culture to adapt science and technology, after watching a number of mythological and historical animated films and Chinese animated films from the past 20 years, as well as looking at the ual library and Google Scholar. There aren’t many, not even in Japan, a big anime producing country, though I did find Hyouge Mono, one of the more well-known.
I looked for solutions online. The opinions were various, so I categorised them widely and adopted the positions supported by the following two groups of people.
One camp believes that as art is derived from and transcends life, it should be appropriately modified to improve the story’s interest in order to draw in more viewers. History and culture will be learned or understood willingly by those who are interested in them.
The opposing group believes that since history and culture are employed as gimmicks for the work and the popularity effect of history is appropriated in order to increase the popularity of the work, the objectivity of the content of the work should be protected and self-adaptation should not be done for some historical materials that are not yet accepted by the historical community. Respect for history is due.
Despite my extensive research and reading of several perspectives, I am unable to concur with either one.
From the perspective of a creator, taking a historical event and turning it into a compelling fiction is the extent of their abilities; after all, nobody is flawless.
But because I love history, I find it difficult to justify changing a historical event without maintaining historical impartiality.
And as a result, I made the decision to create a report on this kind of topic in the hopes that more people will attend to debate it.
